Capital Group, one of the world’s largest fund houses with assets of around one trillion USD under management, has drastically reduced its funds invested in Greek stocks in the last few days, thus becoming the biggest seller in ASE.
According to information, the global investment giant is determined to abandon the Greek market, due to the increased risks created by the political uncertainty in the country, following the Prime minister Antonis Samaras’ decision to call a snap presidential election that could lead to early national elections.
In the above context, Capital went on to sell-off large blocks of Greek stocks, even at a loss, contributing decisively to the rapid collapse of blue chips and mid caps indices.
It should be noted that last month, a leaked memo from Joerg Sponer, an analyst at Capital Group, described the main opposition SYRIZA’s economic program as “worse than communism” and “total chaos” following its presentation in London by MP Yiorgos Stathakis and Yiannis Milios, leading economic advisor for SYRIZA.
“Everybody coming out of the meeting wants to sell everything in Greece,” the analyst said.
Although main opposition SYRIZA denied that Mr Sponer was at any of the meetings it held, it admitted that other Capital Group analysts were present. Commenting on the leaked e-mail, Capital Group said the report does not reflect its universal views.
