How will public transportation operate today

Twenty-one years on, Athens’ ‘last tram’ still divides the city

Mr. Staikouras and Mr. Economou exchanged greetings with the staff in view of the New Year and were informed about the new buses that arrived at the depot by the managing director of O.SY. A.E.Stephenos Agiasoglou.

In the context of the visit, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras said “We visited the O.SY. depot today to wish a happy new year to the company’s staff, who are working to serve the passengers of Athens these days.At the same time with the arrival of the New Year, new buses are coming to the capital. There are already 100 brand-new, 9-metre-long electric buses in the depot, which will be added to Athens’ public transport map in the coming period. The first 27 articulated gas buses have also arrived. In total, together with the 278 new vehicles already on the streets of Attica, urban transport now has more than 400 new buses. Just as we had committed to! The modernisation of the fleet continues, consistently and methodically. Our goal is 950 new buses in Attica in the summer of 2025. I would like to repeat my wishes for a Happy New Year, with health, prosperity, creativity and solidarity!

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Vassilis Economou noted “With the new 100 buses that we have received and will put in circulation in the next few days, we enhance the quality of urban transport, offering safe, modern and environmentally friendly transport to citizens. The contribution of O.SY. employees is crucial, and the replacement of our fleet is a practical demonstration of our commitment to better, more sustainable transport for all.”
