Newsroom January 15 08:15

The snowstorm is gradually subsiding, but severe frost is expected through Friday, while the weekend promises to greet us with sunshine and mild temperatures.

Giorgos Tsatrafyllias warns about the intense frost expected over the next three days. In his forecast, he also mentions a sunny weekend with rising temperatures.

However, today rain will persist in several areas, with meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas warning about storms from Samos to Rhodes.

Arnaoutoglou: Weather Improving, New Rain System Expected from 19/1

Sakis Arnaoutoglou notes that today the weather will improve, with rain confined to the southwestern, southern, and southeastern parts of the country.

On Thursday, new rain showers will affect western areas but will gradually subside. By Friday and Saturday, the weather will improve, though strong frost will persist in northern regions.

However, starting from 19/1 and peaking on 20/1, a new system of rain will sweep across the country from west to east, lasting two days. Afterward, it seems we’ll be heading into another phase of significant cold.

Significant Rainfall Amounts Recorded Yesterday in the South

Significant rainfall was recorded until the evening hours of Tuesday, January 14, particularly in parts of the Peloponnese, southern Ionian, Evia, and the westernmost areas of Crete. This is also reflected in the map below. The highest rainfall amount by 6:20 PM was recorded at the meteorological station in Kalentzi, Achaia, with 75.6 mm.

The map below shows the total rainfall amounts until 6:20 PM on Tuesday, January 14, as recorded by 520 meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr’s automated network, highlighting the top eight measurements.

Schools Closed in Florina and Amyntaio

By decision of Florina Mayor Vasilis Giannakis, all primary and secondary schools in the municipality of Florina will remain closed on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, due to the harsh weather conditions (snowfall and low temperatures) prevailing in the area.
