The Swedish police said today they have arrested a man in the Stockholm area on suspicion of preparing terrorist crimes in a case involving Islamist extremism.

The person was suspected of preparing a terrorist crime, membership in a terrorist organization, preparing an attempted assassination and preparing to violate laws on the use of explosives, according to police.

The investigation is not linked to cases that were previously ongoing, police said in a statement.
