European Central Bank head Mario Draghi told Handelsblat newspaper in an interview published today that the risk of ECB not being able to preserve price stability is higher now than it was six months ago.
Moreover, Mr. Draghi reiterated the Central Bank’s willingness to act early this year if it becomes necessary, urging European politicians to push the necessary reforms that will result in lighter tax burdens and less red tape.
These reforms must be implemented to support the euro zone recovery, which Draghi characterized as “fragile and uneven”.
“We are in technical preparations to adjust the size, the speed and the composition of the measures we will take in the first months of 2015, should it become necessary to react to a prolonged period of low inflation,” he added while ruling out the possibility of a euro zone break-up.
“A break-up of the euro zone? That will not happen. This is why there is no plan B,” he said.
