Government sources respond to Greece‘s non-participation in the London summit, clarifying that “the London summit is not part of an international organisation, but is an individual initiative by the UK.”

Greek EU presidency is a national goal that transcends parties and political divisions, says Tasos Hatzivasileiou

They point out that “the meeting has been invited primarily to countries, including outside the European Union, which have the largest contribution to Ukraine and which, in the judgment of the British government, are in the immediate availability of further military assistance to Ukraine.”

As they point out “in the context of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council, Greece has supported the need for a just and viable solution for the Ukrainian people. The institutional forum in which the issue of support for Ukraine will be discussed at the European level is the upcoming extraordinary European Council on 6 March. Any binding decisions will be taken there.”

According to the same sources, “the Prime Minister will reiterate Greece’s position that Europe must take greater responsibility for its defence and that this requires bold measures, such as budgetary flexibility for member states to be able to make major investments in defence, but also common European funding for programs of European interest, such as the anti-missile shield. Europe’s position should be one and united.“
