Putin turns to the Arctic: “We are ready to protect our national interests”

The Russian president revealed that the number of troops stationed in the Arctic Circle is set to increase significantly

Newsroom March 27 07:40

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Russia’s presence in the Arctic, warning that Moscow will defend its interests in the region amid growing geopolitical tensions. “Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic,” Putin stated, adding, however, that his country is ready to protect its national interests by any necessary means.

He revealed that the number of troops deployed in the Arctic Circle will increase significantly, as part of an effort to bolster Russia’s military presence in the region. This announcement comes as Moscow seeks to assert control over the Northern Sea Route, a strategically significant shipping corridor through the Arctic Ocean.
