Following the arrest of two alleged accomplices of convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xiros in Kalamata on January 14, the Counter-terrorism police now investigate 12 people who are suspected of collaborating with the former member of 17N terrorist group.
The two arrestees, a 54-year-old Greek and a 37-year-old Albanian who was using the name “Theocharis” are currently being interrogated by the police while a 22-year-old mysterious woman called Aggeliki who was allegedly helping Xiros is still at large. Police suspect that these three individuals were members of the new group the convicted terrorist had formed in order to free members of the terrorist organization known as Cells of Fire (Pyrines tis Fotias) from Korydallos prison.
However, the Anti-terrorist Unit’s raids at Theocharis’ apartment in Sepolia and at the two houses owned by the Greek arrestee have so far come to nothing.
Apart from a replica gun in the apartment in Sepolia, no other explosive, ammunitions or weapons were found. Of course, the police are checking all three places for fingerprints and DNA in an attempt to find the remaining members of Xiros group.
According to police sources, Christos Patoucheas, the Greek 54-year-old former police officer who was arrested yesterday, is the key person in the investigation, as he was a man with many criminal contacts. His telephone records have been put under the microscope by the police, who also investigate his connections with prison inmates who knew Xiros.
