Responding to the Prime Minister’s statements early on Saturday, accusing SYRIZA of wanting to eliminate the middle class in Greece, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said the government continues to engage in its usual scaremongering.

Mr. Tsipras, who is currently in the northwest province of Epirus, said that even if the main opposition wanted to eliminate the middle class this would be impossible, “as the middle class has already been completely destroyed by Mr. Samaras policies, and the policies of the troika of the country’s lenders.”

The SYRIZA leader underlined that the Greek people no longer believe the Prime Minister’s “lies”, despite the government’s continued efforts to scare them.

Referring to mountainous Epirus province, which he is currently touring, Mr. Tsipras noted that it is “a special place, neglected and poor but with huge potential, a place with proud people who deserve our attention.”
