Weather: changing face with local showers, dust and a drop in temperature

The weather is gradually changing, according to the updated forecast from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), with clouds, local showers, and isolated thunderstorms expected in several parts of the country. Despite the shift, temperatures will remain relatively high for the season, keeping the spring-like feel in the air.

More specifically, thin cloud cover will gradually become denser, bringing local showers or storms starting in the southwest and spreading to most of the country by midday or afternoon. Most weather phenomena will be light and short-lived. African dust will likely be carried over southern regions. Winds will be variable at around 4 Beaufort, reaching 5 Beaufort locally in the south from the east. Temperatures will remain stable, reaching 24–25°C inland and 23–24°C on the islands.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

  • Weather: Thin clouds becoming denser in the afternoon with local showers or brief thunderstorms mainly in the mountains. Conditions improve by evening.
  • Winds: Variable 2–3 Beaufort, NE 4 Beaufort in the east.
  • Temperature: 7°C to 24–25°C.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN MAINLAND, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

  • Weather: Patchy clouds thickening from the south, with showers and storms beginning in Messenia in the morning, spreading to Zakynthos and other areas by afternoon, mostly in mountainous regions. Clearing by evening.
  • Winds: ENE 3–5, shifting to WNW 3–4 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 10°C to 24°C; 3–4 degrees lower in inner Epirus.

EASTERN MAINLAND, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE

  • Weather: Cloudy initially in the south, quickly spreading. Local showers and storms from morning in Laconia and Kythira, spreading elsewhere by afternoon. Clearing in the evening.
  • Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort, ENE up to 5 Beaufort in the south.
  • Temperature: 10°C to 24°C.

CYCLADES, CRETE

  • Weather: Dense clouds starting in Crete, gradually spreading to the Cyclades. Showers and thunderstorms from late morning in Crete and afternoon in the Cyclades.
  • Winds: Easterly 4–5 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 14°C to 23–24°C.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

  • Weather: Thin clouds gradually thickening. Local showers and thunderstorms expected in the Dodecanese by afternoon.
  • Winds: Variable 4 Beaufort, SE up to 5 Beaufort in the south.
  • Temperature: 14°C to 23–24°C.

THESSALY

  • Weather: Patchy clouds becoming temporarily denser. Afternoon showers in mountainous areas.
  • Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 10°C to 25°C.

ATTICA

  • Weather: Thin clouds thickening quickly. Localized showers and possibly thunderstorms in the afternoon, generally mild and brief. Improving by evening.
  • Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 11°C to 24°C.

THESSALONIKI

  • Weather: Cloudy becoming denser by afternoon, with possible local showers or storms in surrounding mountains. Clearing by evening.
  • Winds: Variable 2–3 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 10°C to 24°C.

Forecast for Wednesday, April 23, 2025

Generally clear in the eastern islands and Thrace with passing clouds. Elsewhere, clouds will increase by midday, bringing local showers, particularly in mountainous inland areas during the afternoon.

  • Winds: Variable 3–4 Beaufort in central/north; W 4–6 Beaufort elsewhere.
  • Temperature: No significant change.

Forecast for Saturday, April 26, 2025

Partly cloudy with local showers in the west, north, and eastern Aegean. Thunderstorms mostly inland by midday and afternoon. Weather clears in the west by evening.

  • Visibility: Locally limited in the west during the morning.
  • Winds: W 4–5 Beaufort, turning NW in the west. Variable winds 3–4 Beaufort in the northeast.
  • Temperature: No significant change.
