Theodorikakos meets with a delegation of the US State Development Bank

Focus on strengthening the shipbuilding and ship repair industry

Newsroom May 15 07:00

Minister of Development Takis Theodoricakos met with a delegation of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), led by Chief Financial Officer Mildred Callear, and with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Greece, led by Chief of Staff Maria Olson.

During the meeting, the Development Minister praised the decisive contribution of DFC to the investment in the regeneration of the Elefsina Shipyards, stressing: “A strong and competitive shipbuilding industry is a national bet for Greece. We are one of the five largest naval powers in the world, and DFC has actively supported this effort, contributing to the restart of a critical industry for the economy and national strategy.”

Mr. Theodoricakos said that Naval Shipbuilding and Naval Shipbuilding have been included, by legislative initiative, among the strategic and emblematic investments of the country, while he made a special reference to the new investment being implemented in the wider region, with the ONEX-Thriassios partnership: “A major transit hub and a modern logistics center is being formed, with multiplier benefits for the national economy, the transport of goods and regional development in the Southeastern Mediterranean, as well as the creation of hundreds of new jobs,”
he stressed.

DFC’s Chief Financial Officer, Mildred Callear, described the investment of the US state development bank in Greece as a “real success”, noting that it is the first, but not the last, project of the development bank in the country, and expressed strong interest in further investments.
