Greece will host a group stage of EuroBasket 2029, marking the tournament’s return to the country after 34 years. The last time EuroBasket games were held in Greece was in 1995. In 2029, Greece will host the group featuring the national team at the OAKA stadium in Athens.
The Hellenic Basketball Federation released a video titled:
“EuroBasket Returns to Greece.”
In the video, several basketball legends—Efthimis Rentzias, Nikos Zisis, Kostas Tsartsaris, Nikos Galis, Dimitris Diamantidis, Vassilis Spanoulis, and Giannis Antetokounmpo—share their thoughts on Greece’s hosting, accompanied by scenes from Athens and the newly renovated OAKA.
Nikos Galis said:
“The whole nation feels proud when Greece hosts major events. It will be something special for the athletes and the fans.”
Then Dimitris Diamantidis added:
“Today, the national team is getting what it deserves.”
Vassilis Spanoulis followed:
“Playing for Greece, in Greece, is the best feeling for us. It’s exactly what players in 2029 will wish for.”
The final words came from NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo:
“It’s a huge opportunity—for me, for my country, for my team. I wasn’t born in ’87, I was just a kid in ’95 and ’98. 2029 will be our moment. See you there.”
