Hatzivasileiou: Major Business delegation to Spain – Greek products in high demand

As he stated, leading the business delegation, Greek producers and exporters will participate in a major business forum where they will explore another significant European market

Newsroom May 26 01:48

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports the outward-looking orientation and export potential of Greek businesses,” noted Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Mr. Tasos Hatzivasileiou, speaking to Real FM on Monday morning.

Speaking from Madrid, where he is heading a business delegation, he explained that Greek producers and exporters will take part in a major business forum, giving them the opportunity to explore the Spanish market—another major European market where Greek products are in high demand. “This is the first mission of its kind to Spain in years,” he emphasized.

Responding to a related question from journalists Nikos Hatzinikolaou and Katia Makri, he pointed out that it is a diplomatic success for Greece that any discussion of cooperation between a third country—such as Turkey—and the European Union in the defense sector requires unanimous consent.

“Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis handle foreign policy issues with seriousness and vision. The government does not support inaction but rather active diplomacy within the framework of international law,” he said. He further emphasized, “It is inconceivable for a third country to seek EU funds and participate in defense programs while threatening war against an EU member state like Greece.”

Responding to opposition criticism, he stated: “Fearmongering is unnecessary—what we need is seriousness. We speak based on facts. Anyone who doubts this should consult the European documents.”

Regarding the Cyprus issue, the Deputy Minister stressed that Greece consistently supports the positions of the Republic of Cyprus and insists, along with the international community, on the only acceptable solution: a bizonal, bicommunal federation based on UN Security Council resolutions.

Turning to the situation in Gaza, he noted that Greece, as the current chair of the UN Security Council, is at the forefront of initiatives to end hostilities and ensure the immediate provision of humanitarian aid. He also recalled the joint statement by 80 UN member states—achieved through the initiative of Greece and Mr. Gerapetritis in New York—calling for the protection of civilians in conflict zones, including Gaza.
