Greece braces for storms and snowfall

Wind velocity will reach 8-9 on the Beaufort scale in the both the Aegean and the Ionian seas.

Weather is expected to deteriorate on Friday, according to the National Meteorological Service. Successive waves of bad weather will hit several regions in Greece, involving heavy storms and even snowfall in mountainous areas.

Specifically, local showers and storms are forecast on Friday in the Northern regions of the country and over the Aegean islands. Weather is expected to deteriorate in the afternoon with heavy snowfall in the mountainous areas.

Adverse weather conditions are also forecast for western Macedonia, where it is expected to snow even in areas of relatively low altitude.

Temperatures will range from -2 to 7 degrees in western Macedonia, from 2-11 degrees in northern Greece, from 3-13 degrees in central Greece, from 5-9 degrees in Epirus, and from 8-15 degrees over the Aegean islands. In Crete, temperatures will be significantly higher, reaching 18 degrees Celsius.

Wind velocity will reach 8-9 on the Beaufort scale in the both the Aegean and the Ionian seas.
