Russia launches over 440 drones and 32 missiles in one of the ‘most horrific attacks” on Ukraine, says Zelensky

Zelensky called it one of the "most horrific attacks" - Kyiv accuses the civilised world of "lack of adequate response"

Newsroom June 17 11:45

Russia launched more than 440 drones and 32 missiles against Ukraine overnight, in what President Volodymyr Zelensky described as “one of the most horrific attacks” since the start of the war. Ukrainian authorities reported that at least 14 civilians were killed in Kyiv alone as a result of the strikes.

“We are in contact with all partners at every level to ensure an appropriate response. It is the terrorists who must feel the pain—not innocent, peaceful civilians,” Zelensky stated on X, where he also released a video showing the aftermath of the bombardment.

Earlier, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, confirmed that the Ukrainian capital alone was targeted by 175 Russian drones, at least 14 cruise missiles, and at least two ballistic missiles.

Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff, sharply criticized what he called the lack of an “adequate response” from the international community to Russia’s continued aggression.

“A state with nuclear weapons is able to systematically kill civilians in residential buildings, reject calls for a ceasefire, and still face no sufficient reaction from the civilized world. Why? And how many more civilians and children must die before that changes?” Yermak asked on Telegram.

This night, Russia launched a massive and brutal strike against Ukraine. Hundreds of drones and missiles targeting civilians. Kyiv suffered particularly severe attacks.

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha added that the deadly assault on Kyiv coinciding with the G7 Summit was a deliberate message of defiance toward the United States and other leaders urging an end to the war.

“Putin’s objective is straightforward: to portray the G7 leaders as weak. Only strong, decisive action and real pressure on Moscow can disprove that narrative,” Sybiha asserted in a post on X.
