According to verifiable information, a private transaction took place in London, amounting to around 300 million USD. A Paul Gauguin painting was sold. The piece of art is dated 1892 and is titled “Nafea Faa Ipoipo” (“When will you Marry?”)

The sale was confirmed by retired former Sotheby’s director Rudolf Staechelin, aged 62, who inherited 19 pieces of Impressionist and Meta-Impressionist art. This specific painting was hosted by the Kunstmuseum Basel for around half a century.

According to information, the painting has been bought by a Qatar collector, without it yet being known if the collector was acting on behalf of the Qatar Museum of Art or by himself.

The previous record-holding sale of art to a private collector was the sale of Cézanne ‘s “The Card Players” which was sold by magnate Yiorgos Embeirikos to the royal family of Qatar.

During the last few years, Qatar’s royal family has amassed an impressive art collection, including pieces by Mark Rothko, Damien Hirst and Paul Cézanne.
