Patriarch Bartholomew to the White House in September – He will meet with Trump

In addition to his meeting with President Trump, the Ecumenical Patriarch will have contacts with members of Congress and the Senate, as well as with representatives of the diplomatic corps

Newsroom July 15 06:50

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, is to meet officially at the White House, probably on Tuesday, September 16, with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is visiting the country from September 15 to 25.

The visit comes after the Templeton Foundation announced the award of the prestigious international award of the same name to His Holiness for his pioneering actions to bridge scientific and spiritual understanding of man’s relationship with the natural world, uniting people of different religious beliefs in a common action to protect creation.

The Ecumenical Patriarch is expected to arrive on Monday, September 15, at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. In addition to his meeting with President Trump, at which he will be accompanied by Archbishop Elpidophoros, the Ecumenical Patriarch will have contacts with members of Congress and the Senate, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps.

According to an official statement from the Archdiocese of America, on Wednesday, September 17, the Ecumenical Patriarch will preside over a Doxology service at St. Catherine’s Church in Falls Church, and the following day, September 18, he will travel to New York City, where a Doxology service will be held at St. Nicholas Church and a national pilgrimage to Ground Zero.

Then, on Friday, September 19, His Holiness will be the main speaker at the Council on Foreign Relations. That evening, he will meet with youth leaders of the Holy Archdiocese from New York and New Jersey, followed by a dinner in his honor (St. Nicholas Gala) at Casa Cipriani in Manhattan.
