Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a message calling for closer cooperation between relevant ministries during a meeting of the Governmental Council for Economic Policy at the Maximos Mansion, focusing on cutting bureaucracy.

In his opening remarks, Mitsotakis emphasized that “this is an effort that began in 2019, and where we can already show measurable results across many different sectors, as confirmed by international organizations like The Economist.” However, he also acknowledged that “certain problem areas remain.”

He stated that the main objective is to review a long list of interventions, with 12 ready for immediate implementation, and to set clear priorities where inter-ministerial collaboration can lead to targeted actions that will improve the business environment.

“I want to stress,” he added, “that overall cooperation — under the oversight of the Vice President and the Minister of State — between ministries in this area is very strong. We should not view these issues solely through the lens of rigidly defined responsibilities. We must approach them through a broader framework and not hesitate, at times, to relinquish responsibility or authority if doing so serves the greater good. This is the sentiment I’ve observed, and I believe it should guide our actions going forward.”

The main theme of the meeting was:
“Facilitating Entrepreneurship, Simplifying Licensing Procedures, and Further Reducing Bureaucracy”,
presented by Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos.
