Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras expressed his optimism on Friday over the outcome of negotiations between the Greek government and the country’s international creditors, speaking to his Cabinet on Friday.

During the five-hour meeting, which ended well after midnight, the ministers were briefed on the developments that occurred at the Eurogroup meeting and the EU Summit a day earlier.

Tsipras, Deputy PM Yiannis Dragasakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias did the briefing, while jet-setting FinMin Yanis Varoufakis arrived shortly after midnight.

According to government sources, the consensus was that Athens would seek an agreement on the basis of a compromise that would allow it to implement the core of its program, including hiking spending to address what the leftist ruling SYRIZA party has long called a “humanitarian crisis” in the country, to overturn labor market liberalization and to “protect public property” — a catchphrase essentially meaning they’ll stop privatizations, leasing out state assets or even reversing privatizations (Cosco?).
