German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble predicts that Greece will need additional aid.
In an interview he gave to German Focus magazine, the German FinMin stated that Greece will probably need a third aid package, which won’t exceed the amount of 10 billion euros. According to his estimates, the Greek debt will not reach a sustainable level before 2022, so the country is going to need additional help, on the condition that it continues to comply with the requirements of the troika.
FinMin denies fiscal gap is as high as 7 billion euros
On Friday, following a meeting with Premier Antonis Samaras, in which he briefed him about IMF’s decision to approve the disbursement of a 3.5 billion bailout loan tranche to Greece, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras dismissed media reports that the IMF’s latest review estimates Greece’s “fiscal gap” at 7 billion euros.
“They are making the same mistake they were making some time ago, with the European Commission review. They are adding numbers that cannot be added, because they are already aggregates,” he noted.
