Trump–Putin meeting in Alaska on Friday night – “Ukraine the central topic,” Kremlin announces

The long-awaited one-on-one between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will take place at 10:30 p.m. Greek time (11:30 a.m. Alaska time) on Friday, the Kremlin confirmed

Newsroom August 14 12:59

According to Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, the U.S. and Russian leaders will first meet alone, with only interpreters present.

He told reporters that “sensitive issues will be discussed,” noting that the main topic on the agenda will be the crisis in Ukraine, along with trade and economic matters. “The discussion will take into account what was said at the Kremlin on August 6 with the participation of the U.S. president’s adviser, Steven Witkoff,” Ushakov added.

After the meeting, “there will be joint statements from Putin and Trump summarizing the results of their talks,” he said.

Following the tête-à-tête, expanded delegations from both countries will hold a working breakfast, with each side consisting of five members (“in a 5+5 format”), while specialist teams will be nearby.

Ushakov described the location of the meeting as “symbolic,” noting it will be near the burial site of nine Soviet-era pilots, as well as two soldiers and two civilians who died between 1942–1945 while ferrying aircraft from the U.S. to the USSR under the Lend-Lease program.

When asked how long the meeting would last, he replied, “It will depend on how it unfolds. There are timing considerations, but the conclusion will be up to the two presidents. And if you are wondering whether the Russian delegation will return home afterward—yes, I can confirm we will depart immediately once the talks conclude.”

Russian Delegation
Attending from the Russian side will be special envoy Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund RDIF, along with Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, according to the RBC news outlet.
