GCM: The 30th Greek Film Festival program now on sale

As with every festival, the 2025 line-up shines a light on new, Greek feature releases providing Melbourne audiences with a taste of contemporary Greek storytelling

Newsroom August 20 10:59

The Greek Community of Melbourne is proud to announce the full program of the 30th Greek Film Festival (GFF), set to run from 14 – 26 October 2025. Marking three decades of celebrating Greek cinema, this year’s festival presents new contemporary features and looks back to some of the standout films in the Festival’s 30-year catalogue.

As with every festival, the 2025 line-up shines a light on new, Greek feature releases providing Melbourne audiences with a taste of contemporary Greek storytelling. A strong collection of documentaries complements the new releases.

This year’s Festival also pays tribute to acclaimed Greek actor, screenwriter and film director Renos Haralambidis, whose distinctive performances and charismatic screen presence have made him one of the most recognizable and respected figures in modern Greek cinema.

The festival will also feature a selection of film highlights from its 30-year catalogue.  This curated retrospective offers viewers the rare chance to revisit or discover for the first time, iconic Greek films from 3 decades of cinematic storytelling that have helped to describe an evolving Greek story through multiple generations and an ever-changing social landscape.

GCM Vice President and Greek Film Festival Committee Chair, Leo Vlahakis expressed his excitement about the landmark festival edition:

“The 30th Greek Film Festival is not only a celebration of cinema, but a testament to the enduring cultural ties between Greece and Australia. This year’s program honours the past, embraces the present, and looks forward to the future of Greek storytelling.   We celebrate filmmaking in Greece, by Greeks and about Greek stories and the festival reflects this perfectly.”

The 30th anniversary season will open with the powerful historical drama Kapetan Mihalis, directed by Kostas Haralambous and based on the beloved novel by Nikos Kazantzakis.

Full program details, film synopses, and ticket information are now available at Melbourne – Greek Film Festival 2025.
