The preparations of the government staff are coming to an end, and today, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is heading up to Thessaloniki and the DETH with a package of some 1.7 billion in relief and tax cuts in his luggage.
The prime minister yesterday had his last meetings with his colleagues, focusing more on preparing for his press conference on Sunday, and has also mapped out the main canvas of his speech, which will not just be a list of sporadic and “small”, individual measures. Rather, his speech will be guided by a unified logic that growth must be passed on to society, in favour of the productive strata and especially families with children.
Without any special “fanfare” and given the “ban” on parties and party entertainment, Mr. Mitsotakis will be present today in the afternoon at an event of the Ministry of Education at “Vellideio” with the central theme YES to education and the participation of the Minister Sofia Zacharaki, a top executive of the Open AI company, Antonis Papadimitriou from the Onassis Foundation, a teacher and a student. And immediately afterwards, he will make a pass at the traditional “call” of government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis to journalists at the Electra Palace in Aristotelous Square.
As we approach the prime minister’s speech, the outline of the measures, which is reportedly inspired by the logic of the “French model” of taxation, becomes clearer at the same time. In practice, this means that families without children will be taxed differently, and families with children will be taxed differently, depending on how many children they have.
As protothema.gr has long reported, children will cease to be a presumption and will be an excuse for a tax reduction. Of course, there will be overall tax reductions for taxpayers, with the introduction of new scales and a widening of the amounts to which the scales apply. It is just that the big winners will be parents, particularly those with three or more children. At the same time, positive measures are also expected for pensioners with the abolition of the personal differential and for members of the armed forces, with the second consecutive salary increase combined with the changes in taxation.
Closing the cycle of tours
Today, at the same time, the cycle of visits of “blue” party delegations to prefectures of Boreal Greece is also coming to an end, while two thematic events will take place in Thessaloniki. According to ministers and government officials who participated in the cliques, the mood they received contained concerns, especially about accuracy and the cost of living, but nowhere did the discussion go away. On the contrary, in some cases, the composition of the scales, with several ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries-general, gave rise to local actors to raise a plethora of issues that affect local communities and need to be addressed.
Now, the ball passes to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who on Saturday morning will also make his customary tour of the TIF pavilions, before retiring for a few hours until he returns from the podium of the Vellideion Conference Centre. Already, ND’s staffers have taken care of the… taxiing, and several attendances and wells are expected to be set up with interest.
