Moody’s credit rating agency characterized SYRIZA ‘s victory in the European Elections as a negative factor (credit negative) for the credit rating of Greece.

However, the credit rating agency notes that the percentage of votes received by SYRIZA (27%) should be compared to the total percentage obtained by the coalition government parties, namely New Democracy and PASOK, which is 30%. Moreover, the agency notes the steady rise of far-right Golden Dawn party during the crisis, which resulted in it coming in third in the elections, at over 9%.

Despite SYRIZA’s claims that the result reflects the rejection of government policies by the voters and the demand for national elections, according to the agency’s forecasts the outcome of the elections will not affect the adjustment program of the coalition government, although it increases the deviation risk.

However, the agency notes that Greece still faces the possibility of early elections due to the fragile and shrinking majority of the coalition government parties and warns that this would be a destabilizing factor.
