According to the Greek mythology, when Deianira, the wife of Hercules, thinking that her husband was cheating on her, sent him a poisoned cloak with his servant Lichas, the former became so enraged that he hurled the servant into the sea.

From Lichas’ remains strung forth several small islets, named after the unfortunate servant, the pristine Lichadonisia.

In reality, this fascinating chain of isles located north-east of the large island of Euboaea (Evia), opposite of the central Greece resort of Kamena Vourla, was formed after a huge earthquake in 426 B.C., when the land that once connected these bits of land sank in the Aegean.

The isles, often called “Little Seychelles” by the locals, are currently uninhabited and they are protected natural habitats. The complex consists of seven isle and islets, namely, Manolia, Strongyli, Mikri Strongyli, Steno, Vagia, Vorias and Limani.

The biggest isle, Manolia has a stunning beach that draws many tourists in the summer. Strongyli is the second largest isle and it is noted for its beautiful, imposing lighthouse.
