Mitsotakis: Hamas’ statement is an important step, hostages must be released and hostilities must stop

The Greek Prime Minister welcomed the new Hamas statement, stressing that Greece supports every effort for stability and lasting peace in the Middle East

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the statement by Hamas as “an important step forward,” referring to the latest developments surrounding the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and the release of hostages.

In a post on social media, Mitsotakis stressed that“the hostages must be released immediately and all hostilities must stop”, noting that Greece remains steadfast in its support for international efforts for peace.

Greece’s position on stability in the Middle East

“Greece remains steadfast in its support for efforts aimed at restoring stability and promoting lasting peace and security in the region, the Prime Minister said.

Mitsotakis’ statement comes hours after US President Donald Trump called for an end to bombing in Gaza, with Hamas saying it accepts key terms of the US peace plan.

Hamas's statement is an important step forward. Hostages must be released immediately and all hostilities must stop. Greece remains steadfast in supporting efforts aimed at restoring stability and promoting lasting peace and security in the region.
