Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a clear political message ahead of the next general election, saying his government has a “very good chance” of securing a third term and presenting moderate, centrist politics as the best answer to populism.
Speaking with Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, during an event organized by Endeavor Greece, Mitsotakis argued that elections are won not through political slogans, but by delivering on promises made to citizens.

“It is possible to win elections by pursuing a moderate, centrist agenda. You can defeat populists by delivering on your promises,” he said, adding that “today we have a very good chance of winning a third term because we approach governance with great seriousness.”
His remarks effectively outlined the strategy that New Democracy intends to follow in the run-up to the elections: political stability, commitment to reforms, and confronting populism through measurable results.

The prime minister also linked this political approach to Greece’s international standing, saying that “Greece is an example of what it means to provide leadership during times of great uncertainty.”
He described the government’s model as a combination of a free-market economy, strong state oversight, and fiscal responsibility.
“We have demonstrated in Greece that it is possible to have a modern, centrist government that believes in the free market while also recognizing the state’s ability to regulate markets,” he said.
Mitsotakis also stressed that the state must become more effective in delivering public services, while warning that deep inequalities could prove “devastating for social cohesion.”
As an example, he pointed to the government’s 41% increase in the minimum wage, noting that the rise significantly exceeds inflation.
