October Full Moon: The first supermoon of the year will light up the sky next week

The Harvest Full Moon will be visible in many areas on Tuesday, weather permitting

Newsroom October 5 08:41

On Tuesday, October 7, the first supermoon of 2025, known as the “Harvest Moon,” will light up the sky, launching a series of three spectacular lunar phenomena that will continue through December.

This year’s October full moon is expected to be the biggest and brightest of the year, as the Moon will be at its closest point in its orbit around Earth. This will be the first supermoon since November 2024 and will be visible in many areas, weather permitting.

The name “Harvest Full Moon” comes from the tradition of giving names to the full moons of the year, usually inspired by nature and agricultural activities. Although October is known as the month of the “Hunter’s Full Moon”, this year this particular full moon is titled the “Harvest Full Moon“, as it rises closer to the autumn equinox – a period associated with the harvest of crops.
