Witnesses claim the suspect worked hard to strike up conversations with teens at a café across from a school complex

Newsroom March 5 06:47

Shocking details continue to emerge in a case involving a 40-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting several young teens he lured via the Internet, following his arrest this week moments before he tried to rape a 13-year-old boy.

According to reports, Filippos Leventos used a sexually suggestive account on Facebook and his job in a family-run mini market to meet and prey on young pre-pubescent boys. Proto Thema has learned that the alleged pedophile favored a cafe across the street from a school complex in the working-class west Athens district of Peristeri, an establishment known as a “hangout” for junior and high school pupils.

Witnesses claim the suspect tried to strike up conversations with teens at the café, often inviting them to his family’s mini market.

Police said Leventos had also traveled to Thailand on at least two occasions, raising concerns that the trips were conducted for the purpose of “sex tourism”, although no specific information has come up on his actions in the Asian country.

According to the Athens tabloid Espresso, the wall outside the mini market was repeatedly sprayed with the word “pederast”, only to be immediately covered over with paint by the shop’s owners.

However, beyond the suggestive graffiti no complaints had been filed by neighbors around the mini market.

Meanwhile, police were scouring Leventos’ PC and mobile phones for more information on his activities. On his FB page, his profile’s cover photo shows a “preppy teenager” in a bar surrounded and ominously stared at by so-called “bears”, burly homosexual men. The profile lists the name “Konstantinos Georgiadakis” and a profile pic of an unknown young man – probably lifted off the Internet at random.
Leventos’ last post, on Feb. 14, 2015, written in Greek with Latin letters, reading: “Which babe (male) is up for a c@@@ today???”.

A police investigation is continuing into whether Leventos is part of a wider pedophile ring in the country and abroad.
