Green light from Lebanon for the demarcation of the maritime border with Cyprus – Nicosia speaks of a positive development

Lebanon's Council of Ministers approved the demarcation agreement with Cyprus, while sources at the Ministry of Energy in Nicosia say it is an important step of cooperation ahead of the Lebanese Minister's visit on 10 November

Lebanon’s Council of Ministers approved, during its meeting on Thursday, October 23, chaired by Josef Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, the agreement on the delimitation of the maritime border with the Republic of Cyprus. The decision was officially announced through a statement posted on the Lebanese Presidency’s website.

Following the meeting, Energy Minister Jo Santegh responded to reporters’ questions regarding the next steps after the agreement with Cyprus, noting that the maritime boundaries in the region overlap with those of other neighboring states. “We have received a report that the Minister of Information will discuss,” he said, adding, “The next step will be to finalize the delimitation of the maritime border with Syria, which must be completed.”
