Lebanon’s Council of Ministers approved, during its meeting on Thursday, October 23, chaired by Josef Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, the agreement on the delimitation of the maritime border with the Republic of Cyprus. The decision was officially announced through a statement posted on the Lebanese Presidency’s website.
Following the meeting, Energy Minister Jo Santegh responded to reporters’ questions regarding the next steps after the agreement with Cyprus, noting that the maritime boundaries in the region overlap with those of other neighboring states. “We have received a report that the Minister of Information will discuss,” he said, adding, “The next step will be to finalize the delimitation of the maritime border with Syria, which must be completed.”
On the Cypriot side, sources from the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry described the development as “very positive,” adding that more details will be shared during the official visit of Lebanon’s energy minister to Cyprus, scheduled for November 10.
