The four lead actresses for Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated production, currently titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, have officially been announced.

According to Sony Pictures, Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Maureen Cox, Saoirse Ronan will portray Linda Eastman McCartney, Anna Sawai takes on the role of Yoko Ono, and Aimee Lou Wood will play Pattie Boyd. These four women — who were wives and muses to the Beatles — each had a defining influence on the history of the legendary band.

Maureen Cox met Ringo Starr in 1962 when she was just 15 and training as a hairdresser. They married in 1965 and divorced in 1975. Linda Eastman, a photographer, met Paul McCartney in 1967; the two married in 1969 and remained together until her death in 1998.

Yoko Ono met John Lennon in 1966, and they married in 1969, staying together until Lennon’s tragic death in 1980. Pattie Boyd, a model, met George Harrison in 1964 on the set of A Hard Day’s Night. They married in 1966 and divorced in 1977 — by which time Pattie had also become Eric Clapton’s muse, inspiring his classic song Layla.

Sam Mendes said about the casting choices:

“Maureen, Linda, Yoko, and Pattie are four fascinating and singular women — and I’m thrilled that we’ve brought together four of the most talented actresses working today to tell their stories as part of this incredible journey.”

The project will consist of four standalone films, each dedicated to one member of the Beatles. The band members will be portrayed by Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison).
