The storm “Adel” has been hitting Messinia hard since late Wednesday night, causing extensive damage and placing the entire prefecture on high alert (Red Code). The most intense phenomena appeared early in the morning, just after 7, when heavy hail was accompanied by a sudden change in winds – which shifted from southerly to westerly and strengthened abruptly, according to ERT.
In Finikounta, especially in the Mavrovouni area, the situation is extremely difficult: businesses and residences have suffered serious damage, windows have shattered, roofs and canopies have been torn off, and trees have fallen, dragging everything in their path. Infrastructure damage has also been recorded, worsening the problems, according to best-tv.gr.
Power supply in the area has been cut due to damage to the network, as several electricity pylons are now dangerously tilted. HEDNO (the electricity distribution operator) crews are making efforts to reach the affected points, with weather conditions making their work more difficult.
The Mayor of Pylos–Nestoros, Panagiotis Karvelas, speaking to ERT Kalamata, described the situation in Finikounta as “very difficult,” stressing the intensity of the winds and the heavy hail that hit the area in the early morning hours. As he noted, commercial and tourist businesses in the Mavrovouni–Evangelismos zone have suffered extensive material damage.

In addition, there are concerns about a serious impact on agricultural production, although the full scale of the losses has not yet been estimated, as extreme weather conditions continue.
