Reuters: Greek govt demands return of bribes paid by German defence firms

Bild names four companies and millions of euros in bribes it says were paid to win contracts in Greece

The Greek government is reportedly demanding 100 million euros in rebates from German firms considered responsible for paying kickbacks to win defence contracts during previous years, according to Reuters.

The news agency cites a “high-ranking source” in the Greek defence ministry as the basis for its report.

On its part, the German tabloid Bild reports that Eurocopter, a subsidiary of Airbus, appears to have paid 41 million euros in bribes to Greek officials in order to sell 20 ΝΗ-90 helicopters to the Greek military.

Bild also lists the contractors Rheinmetall, STN and Atlas Elektronik as funneling a total of 62 million euros in kickbacks to gain a contract for the sale of attack submarines.

The same source quoted by Reuters says the current Greek government will demand the 100 million euros as compensation from the aforementioned companies as part of a comprehensive investigation into weapons purchases. να πάρει 500 με 800.000.000 ευρώ», ανέφερε η πηγή.
