Google is preparing to introduce the long-awaited option that will allow Gmail users to change their email address, responding to a long-standing request from its users.

According to international media reports, Google plans to give account holders with addresses ending in @gmail.com the ability to obtain a new email address while keeping all their existing data and access to current services.

For now, however, the new directive regarding email address changes appears only on the Hindi version of Google’s support page—a detail that, according to CNBC, suggests the feature may initially roll out in India.

According to the information published, the address-change feature will be made available gradually to all users.

Based on what is known so far, users who change their Gmail address will automatically retain their original address as an alias. Emails sent to the old address will continue to arrive in the inbox, and the original address will still function for signing in to Google services such as Drive, Maps, and YouTube.

Users will also be able to revert to their previous Google account email address at any time. However, accounts that change their Gmail address will not be allowed to create another new address for the following 12 months, nor will they be able to delete the newly selected address.
