Donations flood in for J. Jukes’ Greek holiday

The pensioner was brutally attacked a day before his dream holiday to Mykonos and Santorini

Newsroom April 7 07:31

People were moved by the sad story of pensioner John Jukes, aged 70, who was mugged and robbed of money he was saving for a trip to Greece as a break from chemotherapy. The cancer battler/survivor received a flood of donations to help make his dream come true. People not only donated to help get John and his wife to Mykonos and Santorini but also left kind words.

More than 300 pounds of the 2,300-pound target has been raised.John and his wife plan to use the money donated for a Greek getaway once John’s five skull fractures from the brutal attack heal.

On the donations page, Eve wrote:

“Thank you so much to all you kind hearted folk, your expressions of sympathy are so much appreciated – John and I feel crushed by this experience – he has been battling his condition bravely for 3 years , and more recently when it became Acute Leukaemia had to undergo 5 week stay in hospital for intensive chemotherapy – he was in isolation with doctors and nurses and me attending around the clock – he had only just recovered enough in the last couple of weeks so as to get Doctor’s permission to travel and have a break to build up his strength , before taking on the daunting prospect of a bone marrow transplant early in May.

The day before we were meant to leave for our holiday, John was in town changing money at the post office while I was at work, and was viciously attacked and robbed .
