The funeral service took place at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, where a large crowd gathered to pay their respects. Queen Sofia of Spain, visibly devastated, accompanied her sister to her final resting place and received the Greek flag that draped the coffin.

Members of the royal family, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as politicians and many citizens, attended the ceremony.

Princess Irene’s body lay in public view at the Metropolitan Cathedral until 10:30 am.

Following the funeral service, her coffin was transported to the royal estates at Tatoi and buried next to her brother and parents, Pavlos and Frederica.

The coffin arrived at Tatoi shortly before 2:30 pm.

Photos show Queen Sofia accompanying her sister with deep emotion, taking the Greek flag from the coffin after the ceremony.

Later, family and close friends gathered for a meal hosted by the family at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Among those present were Queen Sofia, former Queen Anna Maria, Nikolaos de Grece with his wife Chrysi Vardinoyannis, Pavlos’s children, and other relatives.

Earlier, the Metropolitan Cathedral was filled with mourners, including former Queen Anna Maria, Queen Sofia, King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Pavlos, Nikolaos, and Philippos de Grece, Chrysi Vardinoyannis, members of the Serbian royal family, government officials, and others.

From early morning, crowds gathered outside the Cathedral to pay their respects as Princess Irene’s body was on public view.
