Zelensky-Trump meeting in Davos at 14:00, “only one issue remains to be resolved” in peace talks, says Witkoff

The U.S. envoy will travel in a few hours to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin

At 13:00 local time (14:00 Greek time), the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump will take place in Davos, according to a statement from the Ukrainian presidency.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said today that “great progress” has been made in the talks to end the war in Ukraine, explaining that only one issue remains to be resolved, just hours before he travels to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I believe that only one issue remains to be resolved. We have discussed many variations of this issue, which means it can be resolved. If both sides want to solve it, we will solve it,” Witkoff emphasized on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, without giving further details.

“I think we have made great progress,” he added.

Witkoff noted that he will travel today to Moscow with U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to meet with Putin, while indirect talks continue between Kyiv and Moscow aiming to find a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine.

Yesterday, the U.S. envoy had told Bloomberg that it was Moscow that requested the new meeting.

Afterwards, the American negotiators will go to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, where talks will continue at the working-group level, “military-to-military,” Witkoff clarified.

Meanwhile, Trump is scheduled to hold talks today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Davos.

Additionally, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that “the U.S. is willing to provide Ukraine with all the military equipment it needs.”

American negotiators have been speaking separately with Kyiv and Moscow for months, aiming to reach an agreement to end the war, which has been ongoing for nearly four years. However, many issues remain unresolved, including the fate of Ukrainian territories occupied by the Russian military and the security guarantees to be provided to Kyiv.

Witkoff and Kushner had previously met with Putin in Moscow in December to present some proposals.
