Iranian Foreign Minister in Ankara tomorrow, Turkey seeks a role of mediator between Washington and Tehran

Yesterday the official warned that Iranian military forces are "with their finger on the trigger", ready to respond to any US attack

Newsroom January 29 12:06

Iranian diplomatic chief Abbas Araghchi is expected in Türkiye tomorrow, who is keen to play a mediating role in easing tensions between Tehran and Washington, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced today.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakhan Fidan “will reiterate that Türkiye he is opposed to any military intervention against Iran, pointing out the risks such an initiative would pose to the region and the world,” a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said.

Hakan Fidan intends to state that Türkiye is ready to help settle tensions through dialogue, according to a Turkish Foreign Ministry source.

Yesterday, the Iranian foreign minister warned that Iranian military forces are “with their finger on the trigger”, ready to respond to any US attack. However, he reiterated that Tehran is ready for a “fair” and “equitable” deal on Iran’s nuclear program.

Hakan Fidan yesterday “advised” the US to talk to Tehran, saying an attack on Iran would be “wrong.”

A senior Turkish official said Turkey is ready to “strengthen security on its border” with Iran in the event of a US attack.

A high wall separates the two countries along a 380-kilometer border line of 550 kilometers in total that runs through snow-covered mountain ranges, but the official said the measure is not enough.
