Six dead and 480 injured in 433 traffic accidents in January in Attica, as the data show

Six people died and 480 were injured in 433 accidents that occurred in January across Attica, according to Greek police data.

Of the injured, 8 are hospitalized in serious condition, while 472 bear minor injuries.

As noted in the ELAS statement, there was a 25% decrease in fatal traffic accidents compared to January 2025, a fact attributed to targeted traffic policing actions.

During the same period, in the context of the operational actions of the Attica Traffic Police Directorate to upgrade road safety, a total of 31,499 violations were confirmed, of which 173 constituted misdemeanors.

Particular emphasis was placed on checks for dangerous driving behaviour. There were 1,055 offences for driving under the influence of alcohol, 41 of which were misdemeanours, and 2,213 offences for exceeding the speed limit.

In addition, 299 offences were recorded for violating a red light, 657 for using a mobile phone while driving, 1,361 for not wearing a seat belt, and 1,880 for not wearing a protective helmet.

Finally, traffic police officers proceeded to confirm 43 violations for dangerous maneuvers, underlining the importance of observing the Traffic Code to reduce traffic accidents.
