Newsroom April 16 08:33

The president of FC Olympiacos, Vangelis Marinakis, on Thursday was acquitted of all charges related to the so-called “Coriopolis” (Bug-gate) affair involving charges of fixed matches in the Greek professional football league.

The verdict follows a recommendation of acquittal by the deputy appellate-level public prosecutor Panayotis Poulios, whose opinion was that Marinakis has no involvement whatsoever with the affair, which surfaced in 2011.

The public prosecutor’s office assigned this case, following a judicial investigation that lasted many years, indicted 93 individuals for trial. The appellate court acquitted 59 of those defendants, clearing them in the case.
