With sunshine, northerly winds favorable for kite flying, and only limited local cloud cover, Clean Monday, 23 February 2026, is expected to unfold across the country, according to meteorologists Giorgos Tsatrafyllias and Theodoros Kolydas. Temperatures will show a slight increase, while from midweek a period of six to seven rain-free days is shaping up nationwide.

“With sunshine and a tailwind, we fly kites”
In a social media post, Giorgos Tsatrafyllias notes:
“With sunshine and a favorable wind, we fly kites! Then we’ll finally dry out…”,
setting the tone for a day with weather conditions well suited to outdoor activities.
From his side, Theodoros Kolydas describes kite flying as “a small ritual of connection with the sky,” stressing that it requires patience, proper positioning against the wind, and an understanding of weather conditions.
“Kite flying is not simply a custom; it is a small ritual of connection with the sky. (…) When it finally stabilizes high above, it’s not just a piece of paper that rises — with it rise our mood, our hope, and the feeling that the sky is a little closer,”
he says characteristically.
Weather on Clean Monday
According to Theodoros Kolydas, today, Clean Monday, the weather will feature a few temporary clouds in eastern and southern areas, with some light rain in northern Crete, which will gradually subside.
Northerly winds will facilitate kite flying, while temperatures will show a slight increase, mainly in western and northern regions, with maximum values around 15°C.
“Dry” outlook for the coming days
Regarding the weather trend, the meteorologist speaks of a “dry” outlook. From midweek and for a period of six to seven days, all forecast data converge on the expectation that no rainfall is anticipated across the country.
The atmosphere will be drier, with light northerly breezes clearing the horizon and reducing humidity — conditions that favor travel, outdoor work, and open-air activities.
Where kite flying will be favored
According to forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, a map highlights in yellow the areas where winds will exceed 3 Beaufort, favoring kite flying, while gray areas indicate regions where wind intensity will be insufficient.
Conditions will be particularly favorable across most of the Aegean islands, northern Crete, the coastal areas of the Corinthian Gulf, and the coastal regions of eastern Greece.
By contrast, in most mainland areas greater effort will be required to get a kite airborne, while in the southeastern Aegean and southern Crete, strong winds up to midday may complicate attempts.
