Anti-Money Laundering Authority: GSEE’s Panagopoulos faces felony charges for failing to declare €3.2 million

Anna Stratinaki concealed €1.3 million in asset declarations, and her husband Andreas Georgiou failed to declare €800,000

Panagiotis Tsiboukis March 16 01:19

GSEE President Giannis Panagopoulos faces a felony offense after a new investigation by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, led by former Supreme Court Deputy Prosecutor Charalampos Vourliotis, found that he failed to include more than €3 million in his asset declarations.

Furthermore, the Authority uncovered findings regarding former Labor General Secretary and former Deputy Head of the Independent Authority for Market Surveillance, Anna Stratinaki, who submitted inaccurate asset declarations totaling a €1.3 million discrepancy. Her husband, Andreas Georgiou, allegedly failed to declare assets valued between €700,000 and €800,000.

Specifically, following the recent revelations about mismanagement of funds from professional training and education programs linked to GSEE’s president, the independent anti-money laundering authority discovered that Mr. Panagopoulos had not declared income amounting to €3.2 million over the past five years (2020–2025).

It is recalled that Mr. Vourliotis has frozen Panagopoulos’s bank accounts in connection with the professional training programs case and has forwarded the Authority’s report to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.

Although Mr. Panagopoulos was not required to submit formal asset declarations under the law, he was obligated to file statements of assets as president of GSEE-affiliated institutions, through which the disputed funds were allegedly transferred.

At the same time, according to sources, significant findings emerged regarding former Labor General Secretary and former Deputy Head of the Independent Authority for Market Surveillance Anna Stratinaki, showing she submitted inaccurate asset declarations with a discrepancy of €1.3 million.

Evidence of breaches of the asset declaration law also arose for the legal representative of a training programs company, Andreas Georgiou, who allegedly failed to declare assets worth between €700,000 and €800,000 during 2023–2024.

In all three cases, Mr. Vourliotis forwarded the case files to the prosecutor due to the amount involved and because non-declaration or inaccurate declaration constitutes a felony.

Additionally, Mr. Vourliotis submitted the investigation findings to the Audit Court for the assessment and accountability of the parties involved.

It is noted that in February, during the initial stage of the GSEE–Panagopoulos revelations, Anna Stratinaki resigned as Deputy Head of the Independent Authority for Market Surveillance due to her husband’s involvement.

Her resignation was accepted by the Ministry of Development, which stated that she cited “family health reasons.”
