Wolfgang Schaeuble redirected the matter of Greek debt viability to the “Institutions” on Tuesday.
Specifically, Schaeuble, answering questions based on suppositions that the IMF wants a new Greek debt haircut, stated: “It is normal that prior to each Eurogroup there are guesses, but at this time there is already a process in place between the Institutions and Greece”.
He added that Poul Thomsen told the Eurogroup Finance Ministers during the Riga summit that up until the election, Greece was developing faster than the program estimated and that the Greek program foresaw that the total debt drop to 120% of GDP in 2022.
The German FinMin also stated he is restrained in his hopes that there will be an agreement during the next Eurogroup on May 11, noting, however, that negotiations between Greece and lenders and much more effective now.
