Investigations into the involvement of other individuals in the death of Myrto are underway, communications of the arrested suspects are being examined
After their testimonies, the three individuals arrested in connection with the death of 19-year-old Myrto in Kefalonia were sent to prison, while authorities are also examining whether other people may have been involved in the case.
The investigation into possible involvement of additional persons is ongoing. Apart from the 66-year-old with whom Myrto exchanged messages on the night of the incident, investigators want to determine whether any other individuals communicated with any of the three arrested suspects that day.
Regarding the 66-year-old, he presented himself voluntarily to the authorities and revealed that on the night of the incident he had been in contact via an online application with the young woman through video calls until 4:00 a.m.
Furthermore, before the incident occurred, the 66-year-old stated that he had transferred €220 to her, as she allegedly told him she had nowhere to stay that night.
Charges against the suspects upgraded
It is noted that the three defendants were initially charged with “exposure to danger.” However, the charges were later upgraded to premeditated homicide by omission.
Their testimonies were completed on Friday (17/4) and lasted throughout the day. In the evening, before the decision of the investigating judge and prosecutor to remand them in custody, a crowd gathered outside the courthouse demanding exemplary punishment.
To avoid further escalation, after the proceedings concluded, the defendants exited through the back entrance of the courthouse; however, some of those gathered noticed them and ran toward them shouting “murderers” and insults.
A final farewell in an atmosphere of grief
Relatives and friends said their final goodbye on Friday at the Metropolitan Church of Argostoli and later proceeded to the cemetery for the burial ceremony.
“There are no words. I want to leave with her. I don’t exist without Myrto. I don’t exist without Myrto. I lived for Myrto, my child,” her mother said in a television interview.
“I can’t. I was crazy about my little Myrto. I only had my little Myrto. I slept only two hours a day so I wouldn’t upset her… She was a good child. She was my heart, my soul, my breath. What am I supposed to do with my life now? I will leave with her, I won’t leave her alone. I was in love. I only want Myrto, nothing else. I swear I will go with her. I want nothing else, it’s over…” she added.
