A passenger on an ITA Airways airliner gave birth to a baby boy during a flight from Dakar to Rome, a first in the airline’s history, ITA Airways announced today.
The woman, who was in her seventh month of pregnancy, boarded the aircraft to travel from the Senegalese capital to Rome. Shortly after takeoff, however, the pangs of childbirth began.
With the help of crew members and two passengers – a doctor and a nurse – the woman gave birthin a secluded part of the cabin. Both the mother and her baby are in good health, said the ITA Airways press release, which did not specify the nationality or age of the passenger.
The incident occurred on ITA Airways flight AZ855 – member of the German Lufthansa group – from Dakar, Senegal, to Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
