Two 17-year-old girls plunged from the rooftop of a six-story apartment building in Ilioupoli, resulting in one girl losing her life, while the second was rushed in critical condition to Asklepieio Hospital in Voula, where she is fighting for her life.

On the rooftop of the apartment building, authorities found one of the girls’ backpacks, inside which there was a note written by her explaining the reasons behind her actions. Information from the police indicates that the second girl also jumped together with her friend, although no note from her has yet been found.

It became known that one of the girls lived in the apartment building. At some point, they went up together to the rooftop from where they jumped. The rooftop door was found locked, and police believe the two 17-year-olds locked it before carrying out the act.

The Ilioupoli Police Department is conducting the preliminary investigation into the case.

Eyewitness deeply shaken
A man who owns a shop next to the location where the incident occurred described what happened:

“I heard screams and then a loud bang. I turned my head and saw the two girls. I called emergency services and the police. The ambulance really arrived very quickly, but until it got there I stayed close to the girl who was breathing and talked to her, trying to give her strength to remain conscious.

A woman came down from the first floor, approached one of the girls and saw that she was breathing. Then another young man came down saying he was that girl’s brother,” he said, visibly shocked.

“They asked for the rooftop keys and within seconds they fell”
According to a neighbor’s testimony, shortly before the incident the two girls asked the building manager for the rooftop keys, and within just a few seconds a loud noise was heard from their fall.

According to the neighbor, shortly before the incident the two 17-year-olds allegedly asked the building manager for the rooftop keys. “My friend told her, ‘They’re where the keys usually are, where we keep them.’ She hadn’t even managed to take five steps before she heard the bang — the children had fallen from the rooftop,” she said.

She added that nobody could have imagined what was about to happen. “How could she possibly imagine why or for what reason they wanted the keys? She could never have imagined such a tragic event,” she said.
