Under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) is currently in session.
Shortly before 11:00, Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and the leadership of the Armed Forces arrived at the Maximos Mansion.
This is the regular bi-monthly meeting, which nevertheless coincides with critical developments in the wider region.
What will be discussed at the KYSEA meeting
As protothema.gr reported yesterday, the meeting is expected to focus mainly on the country’s defence procurement programmes, with emphasis on the approval of the acquisition of the new Bergamini-class frigates, as well as actions linked to strengthening defence capabilities and the “Achilles Shield” programme. At the same time, special weight will be given to developments in the Middle East and their implications for migration, with the aim of coordinating European countries for border protection and managing the increased pressures in the region.
