Athens is ready for another unforgettable night of heavy metal as Iron Maiden take over the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) tonight, May 23, with their spectacular “Run For Your Lives” World Tour. Thousands of fans from Greece and abroad are expected to flood the iconic venue for one of the biggest rock events of the year.

The legendary British band returns to Greece as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations which start in Athens, bringing a setlist focused on the first nine classic albums that defined the early decades of their career. According to information thus far, this is the band’s most ambitious and theatrical production to date, combining massive stage design, visual effects, and timeless anthems that shaped generations of metal fans.

For Greek metalheads, the timing could not be more exciting. Just 15 days ago, Metallica delivered a historic performance at the same OAKA stadium during their M72 World Tour, attracting more than 90,000 fans and setting a new attendance record for the venue. Now, Athens continues its incredible run as one of Europe’s hottest destinations for live heavy music, with Iron Maiden stepping into the spotlight for another monumental night.

The atmosphere around the city has been electric all week. Fans wearing classic Maiden shirts, waving Eddie flags, and revisiting legendary albums like “The Number of the Beast“, “Powerslave“, and “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” have transformed Athens into a true metal capital. The “Run For Your Lives” tour has already become one of the most talked-about rock tours in the world, with sold-out shows and overwhelming demand across Europe.

Adding even more firepower to the night, special guests are also expected to energize the crowd before Bruce Dickinson and the boys hit the stage. Earlier this week, he also sparked excitement among fans with a social media post hinting that the fans may witness a few unexpected surprises and rare additions to the setlist tonight. Who knows? They may even play long awaited and demanded “Alexander the Great” for the first in Greece…

Tonight’s opening act, Anthrax, will kick off the evening with a full dose of New York thrash metal intensity, reminding everyone why they remain one of the “Big Four” of the genre alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Known for their explosive live shows and unmistakable crossover sound, Anthrax are expected to warm up the massive OAKA crowd with a set that blends speed, aggression, and groove-driven riffs. Since their breakthrough in the 1980s, albums like “Among the Living” and “Persistence of Time” have cemented their place in metal history, and their influence can still be felt across modern thrash and hardcore scenes. Tonight in Athens, they are set to deliver a high-energy performance that perfectly sets the stage for Iron Maiden’s legendary headlining spectacle.

The gates open at 17:00, giving spectators time to take their seats. Anthrax will take the stage at 19:00, while Iron Maiden will perform at 20:40.

Organizers recommend that attendees bring a raincoat, as local showers are expected, and note that umbrellas are not allowed for safety reasons. In addition, bags larger than A4 size are prohibited.

Entry to the stadium will be according to ticket type, either in the arena or the stands, with special arrangements for people with disabilities. For those using the metro, designated meeting points have been set, and parking will be available from Kymi Avenue.

One thing is certain: after Metallica shook OAKA earlier this month, Iron Maiden are ready to prove once again why the Greek fans remains one of the loudest and most passionate in the world.
