Thailand’s royal palace announced on Friday the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The princess passed away at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma following a serious cardiac episode she suffered in December 2022. The Palace’s Official Announcement
The Bureau of the Royal Household announced that Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati passed away peacefully on Thursday evening at Chulalongkorn Hospital.
The statement noted that the princess had been receiving treatment at Chulalongkorn Hospital of the Thai Red Cross Society since December 15, 2022, when she collapsed due to the serious health condition she experienced.
The palace also announced that her cremation will take place after a 100-day mourning period.
Collapse During Dog Training
Her health ordeal began in December 2022, when the then 44-year-old princess suddenly collapsed while training her dogs for a competition in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, northeast of Bangkok.
The incident prompted an immediate medical response, and the princess was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The Severe Cardiac Episode and Complications
Doctors attributed her collapse to a severe cardiac event, which led to serious complications affecting multiple vital organs.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, her condition never showed significant improvement. The princess remained in a coma from 2022 onward, while her life was sustained through mechanical support.
Throughout her hospitalization, her condition was closely monitored by both the royal family and medical staff.
One of the Most Prominent Members of the Royal Family
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and was considered one of the most prominent members of Thailand’s royal family.
Her prolonged absence from public life due to her severe health problems attracted considerable attention within the country, while official updates on her condition remained limited in recent years.
Her death marks the end of a years-long struggle for survival that began with the sudden medical emergency in 2022.
