The swearing-in ceremony for the first female volunteers of the Hellenic Army, serving with the 2026 Second Intake of Conscript Soldiers (ESSO), took place on Friday morning at the “Colonel Konstantinos Tsakalos” Military Camp, the Lamia Recruit Training and Supply Center (KEN-KEYP), in the presence of Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis.

Following changes introduced in the Armed Forces, the political leadership opened the way for the voluntary enlistment of female soldiers.

The first intake of women is expected to serve as an indication of the future of the initiative, which is accompanied by incentives aimed at helping participants secure employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
